Valentine’s Day is the purr-fect reason to show your favorite furry friend some extra love! Chocolate and flowers are great but what’s better than some extra hair on your clothes and drool on your face. Your pet will be happy to spend time with you, and we bet you will love it too! Here are some of our favorite ways to show our pets some extra love by spending Valentine’s Day with them.
1. Make Homemade Dog or Cat Treats
As pet owners, we know that the way to our pet’s heart is through their stomach. Your pet will love spending some extra time with you in the kitchen especially when they find out that you’re making treats for them! - Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats, Recipe from ASPCA
- 2 ½ c. Oat Flour
- ½ c. Unsweetened Applesauce
- 2/4 c. Pumpkin Puree
- 3 tbsp. Peanut Butter
“Preheat oven to 350·. Combine ingredients well. Roll out ½ inch thick and cut individual biscuits with a cookie cutter. Lay out on greased cookie sheet and bake for 40 minutes or until crunchy. Allow to cool completely before letting your pup enjoy it! Keep for up to one week in a sealed container.”

- Kitty Croutons, Recipe from ASPCA
- 5 oz. can Tuna
- ½ c. White Cornmeal
- ½ c. Rice Flour
- 1 Tbsp. Dried Catnip
- ½ c. Water
“Preheat oven to 350·. Drain and dispose of water from tuna, then combine ingredients well. Roll small pieces into Kitty Croutons by hand. Lay out on greased cookie sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until browned and crunchy. Allow to cool completely before letting your cat enjoy! Keep for up to one week in your fridge.”
2. Explore Somewhere New
New places, new sniffs, new friends! If you have a friendly, social animal, try taking them somewhere new! Spend some quality time together exploring a new neighborhood, a new park, or a new beach. Your pet will thank you for spending some extra time with them. Maybe you’ll find your new favorite spot or a new friend! 3. Get A Pet-icure
Schedule your pet for a day of pampering andgrooming at the pet spa, or have a day of rest and relaxation together at home. Give your pet a warm bath, and a well-deserved pet massage. After all, begging for treats and getting belly rubs is stressful work!
4. Lights, Camera, Squirrel!
One picture is all snoot, the next is all wiggly butt. As hard as they may try, animals are not great at selfies. You may end up with some comical outtakes after your selfie photo session with your dog, but for better quality pictures it may be best to leave it to the professionals. 5. Paint Your Pet

6. Hit the Road
Have all the time in the world and no place to be? That sounds like the perfect day for your pet! Jump in the car, roll the windows down, and let the drool fly! If your pet gets excited every time you open the car door, they will love you all Valentine’s Day long after you invite them for a car ride.
7. Just One More Toy Please
Continue your car ride to the pet store and your pet will be googley-eyed in love! Your pet will be excited to get any new toy, but they will love it even more if they can pick it out for themselves. Puzzle toys for dogs are a great solution to keep dogs engaged and mentally stimulated.
8. Donate
If your pet is spoiled silly and already has all of the toys in the world, and gets lots of love on Valentine’s Day and every other day in their fur-ever home, consider sharing the love with pets in need. Many shelter animals would love some Valentine’s Day affection! Donate your time through volunteering, donate shelter wish list items, or make a monetary donation. One example would be the Brevard Humane Society.
With flowers, candies, and chocolates around on Valentine’s Day, it is important to make sure your pet isn’t getting into anything that is toxic. If you find empty wrappers or your pet is acting strange, it is important to contact yourveterinarian immediately.
