Train Your Dog in Brevard County, Florida

January is National Train Your Dog Month! National Train Your Dog Month was started by the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) in 2010. Their goal was to bring awareness to the overall importance of dog training and socialization. People think that training has to be a difficult experience, but that’s not so.

The APDT asserts that training your dog can be “easy and fun”! We agree with the mission of the APDT and fully support National Train Your Dog Month. Training helps you retain the best dog walkers and pet sitters, keeps dogs safe at home, and makes your dog a great playmate in social settings.

Retain the Best Dog Walkers and Pet Sitters

Training your dog will help you retain the best dog walkers and pet sitters, like us here at Space Coast Pet Services. Whether you are out of town on vacation and need a pet sitter or you just need a daily dog walker, training your dog will help him to be a well-handled match for the best pet sitter. This equates to peace of mind for you while you enjoy your vacation or your day at the office.

Most importantly, though, the dog will also be in the best position to stay safe and sound while you’re out. A well-trained dog that walks nicely on the leash, listens to commands, and is socialized will be happier and more successful with a professional coming in to take your place while you need to be away.

Keep Your Pets Safe at Home

Dog Training 2 - January is National Train Your Dog MonthA well-trained dog will be safer at home. We have all heard or experienced stories about the dog that chews up shoes and rugs, hops the fence, digs in the trash, slips off the leash on walks, doesn’t listen to commands, jumps on people, or worse. Am I right?

While these types of problem behaviors don’t make us love our dogs any less, they do put our dogs in a position of getting hurt. We all want our dogs to be safe AND happy.

Not only will your pets be safe at home, but you will be safe, too. 86,000 people are injured each year due to a fall involving their pets. Minimizing those mishaps can be done if you make it your priority to train your dogs well. The time and effort are worth it tenfold.

Happy Playmates in Social Settings

Training your dog will be a welcome, safe, and happy dog in social settings.  A great doggie playmate also knows his manners and how to interact with his playmates and their people. This will come in handy at doggie daycare, dog parks, and even on walks in the neighborhood. Think about the kid on the playground that plays too rough, doesn’t keep his hands to himself, doesn’t respect personal space, or is just a little too obnoxious. He has trouble keeping playmates, right?

How about the adult that is just like that obnoxious little kid, or worse? We’ve all met those types of people and dogs. Don’t let that be your dog. A dog like that will end up being banned from any social setting that will allow him to interact and be social like he should be. It can also put him in the position of getting hurt as he interacts with his playmates.

January is National Train Your Dog Month, but no matter what month it is, training your dog should be at the forefront of your mind. Training helps you retain the best dog walkers and pet sitters, keeps dogs safe at home, and makes your dog a great playmate in social settings. Have questions about daily dog walking or pet sitting services? We’re waiting to hear from you.
